Diary of an aspiring writer.

Entry 001:

I am too lazy to do the whole description of the scene...lazy maybe the wrong word. Uninterested. It always bores me when I read long descriptions. However some are necessary. How else could one set the scene?

Looking over the vast snowy landscape...bla, bla bla...

Who cares about the landscape. The key point to know here is, there is snow. It’s cold. And she is standing alone, with tears streaming down her face. That is it. Why is she crying? Why is she standing alone at the edge of the Forrest out in the cold? Who is she?

I know who she is...but I can’t decide on her name. When I’ll know, I’ll probably know what to write.

It doesn’t help that English is my second language. Even though I use it daily for work, or really anything that has to do with computers.

I’ve read and listened to countless stories, histories, anecdotes over time, so one might say I am quite proficient. However when it comes to writing a book, I just don’t know where to start. I have at least 6 characters living in my head rent free, their stories, all just there...but how to transfer them onto paper and out into the world.

Evict them, and give them a life of their own.

Get myself to a creative writing class? At this point in my life...why? I know, it’ll probably help, improve my writing etc. HOWEVER... I went to numerous classes in my lifetime, and sure they helped a bit, however they also stifled what little imagination I had.

And I know myself.

If I don’t do it raw (so to speak), I’ll never do it. Ever. I’ll just move on and find something else to do, I might feel sad at the prospect of what I lost and what might have been... But not this. If I don’t do this, I just might stop trying...

So.

A name... I know it starts with an E. I don’t know why, but she just looks like someone with a name that starts with an E. Tall, regal, commanding. Pretty, just enough not to be overlooked, but not drop dead gorgeous. Almost generic, one might say. She has one of those generic faces, that get lost in the crowd, but leave a pleasant memory. Her most striking feature though is her light blond hair.
