Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne

Written by: David Gaider
Cover of The Stolen Throne

The Stolen Throne is the First book of the Dragon Age series. Also the prequel you don't really have to read to play any of the games, unless you're really into lore and knowing stuff. I've bolded the names of characters you get to meet/interact with in the games. No actual spoilers for the games themselves, because I am kind and considerate soul. Some of the time.

On to the story:

You start the game Dragon Age Origins in Ferelden and in this book you can learn about the struggle for Ferelden’s independence.

The whole thing gets triggered by the killing (or at least attempted murder) of the last surviving members of the Ferelden Theirin royal family. Maric (Alistair's father), then still a teenager, manages to escape with the help of a patriotic farm boy Loghain and decides to avenge the death of his mother (otherwise also known as the Rebel Queen/Warrior). And while he’s at it - free Ferelden.

Spoiler alert – he succeeds! Yey, Maric!

PS: Flemeth meddles. Shale has a cameo!

In the end, Loghain is promoted to nobility, ranking right after the royal family, Maric marries a warrior princess (and the love of Logain's life) and has a descendant – Cailan.

The end!

Don't you just love a happy end...
